Story 15 – B2 – Betty’s Cosmic Curiosity

B2 English Reading – Short Story & Grammar Quiz

Betty was used to her quiet evenings, but lately, she had been feeling a bit restless. One night, while gazing out her window, she saw a remarkable celestial phenomenon – a meteor shower. It must have been a sign. She decided she would rather explore the universe than spend another evening on the sofa.

Her first priority was to obtain a telescope. She had her research done online, looking for the best model for beginners. She was surprised by the quantity of options available. She chose a small, portable one. She thought she should have started this hobby years ago.

The first few nights were a hassle. She had difficulty setting up the equipment correctly. She would occasionally get disappointed when clouds obscured her view. Nevertheless, she kept at it, driven by a newfound curiosity. She managed to learn how to track distant galaxies, a truly fascinating activity. One evening, she succeeded in seeing a faint nebula, its colors swirling like cosmic paint. The joy she felt was immense. This new hobby enabled her to broaden her horizons unexpectedly. She suggested to her friends that they join her next time. It was truly worth doing.
