A2 English Reading – Short Story & Vocabulary Quiz
It was Saturday, and the whole family was going to celebrate Grandma’s birthday. Lily was very excited. She was going to decorate the living room with balloons. Her brother, Tom, was going to help her.
“The party is taking place at 3 PM,” Mom said. “Make sure everything is ready.” Lily and Tom worked happily. They didn’t want to make any mistake.
Later, Dad came with the birthday cake. It was huge and looked delicious. “We must put it on the kitchen table,” Dad said. “Nobody must touch it before the party.”
At 2:50 PM, Grandma arrived. Everyone gathered to sing. But when Mom went to get the cake, it was gone! “No way!” she said. “Where is the cake?”
Everybody looked around. They were making a disturbing noise. Tom checked the oven. Mum looked under the table. They found nothing. Suddenly, behind a big plant, they finally saw the cake! Their little dog, Max, was trying to hide it. Max was not the most helpful member of the family! Everyone laughed loudly.
