B2 English Reading – Short Story & Grammar Quiz
The Aurora-1, a state-of-the-art satellite, was launched into orbit in order to monitor climate changes. It followed a precise routine and transmitted significant amounts of data back to Earth. Dr. Aris, a senior scientist, was responsible for its operations. He would typically begin his day by checking its status on the main screen.
One morning, the usual steady rhythm of data transmission suddenly stopped. A chilling silence filled the control room. “This can’t be happening,” Aris muttered, a feeling of shock washing over him. The Aurora-1, which had been performing flawlessly, was now completely unresponsive. They had to get the problem diagnosed immediately.
The team worked tirelessly. They had the engineers check every possible system, from the power supply to the communication signals. The pressure was immense, as the data that the satellite collected was invaluable. After hours of intense work, a junior technician, who had noticed a tiny anomaly, managed to secure a faint signal. It was revealed that a minor solar flare had caused a temporary issue. They had the system reset remotely. Slowly, the data began to flow again, and the Aurora-1, the celestial guardian, was back on its mission. Dr. Aris felt a wave of relief!
