Story 13 – B2 – Arthur’s Mountain Climb

B2 English Reading – Short Story & Grammar Quiz

Arthur ought to have known that his solo mountain mission would test him to the limits. He was used to minor climbs, but this peak felt different. He had decided to challenge himself with the infamous “Dragon’s Tooth.” As he approached the base, he observed the summit, a mysterious mist on its jagged edges. It must have been a nightmare for previous climbers.

He thought he should have gotten some help from a more experienced guide. He glanced up at the sheer rock face with a mixed feeling on his face. He was just trying to figure out the minimum gear needed for such an ascent. He considered that under-preparation would be too risky!

“It’s definitely worth giving it a try,” he muttered, trying to bolster his own decision. He had his gear checked by a seasoned mountaineer, that was standing there ready to climb, ensuring everything was perfect. He knew he would get his boots covered in mud, but the view from the top would be invaluable. He had made a few mistakes in the past, but the outcome this time would be successful. He took a deep breath, ready for the climb.
