B2 English Reading – Short Story & Vocabulary Quiz

Agent X was used to the biting cold of the Arctic, a place where the wind would always howl like a hungry beast. His new mission involved preventing the destruction of a critical research station, located in a remote, magnificent ice cave. The enemy, a highly motivated group, aimed to destroy years of invaluable climate data.

He set off from his base. His specialized package of gear was strapped securely on a snowmobile. The journey involved going over narrow ice bridges. He would occasionally take a stroll to stretch his legs, but his focus remained sharp. He knew that at dawn, the enemy would be attempting to activate the destructive device.

His collaboration with local people proved invaluable. They provided crucial aid. Agent X was used to relying only on his instincts, but this time, local knowledge was equally paramount. He knew that by noon, he would have reached the cave entrance, and by evening, he would have taken the climate data. The value of the data was immense; it held the key to understanding the planet’s future. No matter the obstacles he would find in the way, he should succeed. This mission would help people truly broaden their horizons for humanity’s understanding.
