B2 English Reading – Short Story & Grammar Quiz
Luna, a contemporary artist, was preparing for an important art contest. Her latest creation was a large canvas. However, this time she felt a huge amount of pressure. Even though she worked deeply into the night, she wasn’t sure it was good enough. She knew her work had to be perfect to win.
A famous critic was going to judge the contest, and his criticism could be harsh. Luna had two ideas for the painting: one very abstract, the other a realistic landscape. Neither the abstract idea nor the landscape felt completely right for the theme. “I wish I had a clear vision,” she sighed. If she chose the wrong style, she would likely lose.
The deadline was crucial. Finally, after much internal debate, she made a decision. She decided to create something in between an abstract and a landscape painting. After all the hard work, the finished piece was displayed prominently in the gallery. If she had listened to her doubts, she would not have created such a powerful artwork. The experience taught her that self-discipline was key.
