B2 English Reading – Short Story & Vocabulary Quiz
Arthur, a respected basketball athlete, faced his toughest season ever. He had retired from professional competitions but felt the pull to compete again. The return meant intense practice sessions monthly, pushing his body to its strength limits. Every aspect of his training was carefully planned, from diet to recovery and also, he needed to memorize complex routines.
His coach, Adam, approached him after one particular practice. She saw the immense pressure in his eyes. “You’re doing well, Arthur, aren’t you?” she asked gently. Arthur recalled a past game that had gone wrong and had almost ruined his early career. He wanted to leave that all behind. He just wanted to show his best.
Adam emphasized the importance of collaborating with the rest of the team and the new physiotherapist. “We need to highlight every detail,” she advised. Jack, the physio, brought new knowledge and excellent qualifications. Surprisingly, the new approach to his recovery helped quickly and the whole team truly appreciated his dedication. Arthur remained focused, knowing avoiding any further injuries was his main goal.
By the time the big competition arrived, Arthur felt ready. He stepped into the spotlight, feeling calm despite the noise. He remembered all the hours of practice and the moments of silence he used for reflection. He gave his all, and the results were beyond what anyone expected.
