B1 English Reading – Short Story & Grammar Quiz
Liam was currently working as a delivery driver. He had to deliver a special package to a far-off destination. The weather was terrible; a strong storm had hit the area. His van was covered in mud and dirt. He felt disappointed because the heavy rain was making his job more difficult than usual.
He faced a big difficulty when a tree fell and blocked the main road. He had to find an alternative route. He thought, “If I had turned right earlier at that junction, I would have avoided this big problem.” He wished he had listened to the radio news more carefully that morning. He imagined, “If I were home now, I would be watching a good documentary and drinking hot tea.” But he was determined to complete his task.
He knew he could not give up. He checked his map again, looking for a smaller road. He decided to take a very narrow path, which was usually avoided by most drivers. He managed to deliver the package just in time, despite all the problems he had faced. The client was amazed he had reached them. Liam felt excited about his achievement, even though he was dirty and exhausted!
