B1 English Reading – Short Story & Vocabulary Quiz
Alex loved hiking in the mountains. He had always enjoyed the peaceful trails. One day, he was having a hard time with a steep path. He was trying to go fast, saving time. Suddenly, he heard a cry for help. He looked around. A young woman had slipped on a wet rock and sprained her ankle.
Alex greeted her. “Are you okay?”, he asked. Her condition was serious. He immediately told her not to move. He knew he had to look after her until help arrived. He took out his phone to call for an ambulance, but there was no signal. It was a dangerous situation.
He realized he couldn’t give up. He needed to find a way to report it. He tried to remember the quickest route down. He remembered a small hut set up for emergencies. He told the woman to hold on, promising to be back just in time. He raced down the mountain, knowing he was not wasting time. Finally, he found a park ranger and explained the situation. Together, they returned to help the injured hiker, relieved that everything turned out well.
