B1 English Reading – Short Story & Vocabulary Quiz
Liam always wanted to volunteer abroad. This summer, he got his chance. He joined an organization working in a small village, far from his own country. He was excited to experience new cultures and meet people from different nations.
When he arrived, the local airport was small. The drive to the village showed him many new sights. He was given a small room with simple, wooden furniture. Inside, there was a basic sink and a hook for his towel. It was his own personal space.
His main responsibility was to help build a new community center. He quickly learned how to use the tools and equipment. One day, while working, he noticed a group of children playing nearby. Their behavior was lively and joyful. He realized communication was difficult because of the language barrier. But a smile was always a good reply. He learned to behave respectfully in their community, understanding their way of life.
From the hill near the village, he had a wonderful view of the valley. He began to recognize the beauty in the simple life there. He understood that all people had the right to feel happy. He packed his stuff at the end of his trip. He knew he would always remember this amazing experience.
